Regular Season Fees & Expenses
REQUIRED
ExCEL Membership Fee -- $35 ExCEL Membership Fee – annual fee, paid per family, not per student. (If you already paid this with the ECHO Co-op, you don’t need to pay it again.) The ExCEL membership fee helps to pay for the costs of running ExCEL Academic League, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation. Due by October 10th. (or whenever you join the team after October 10th.)
Team Participation Fee
Middle School
$75 per student Team Participation Fee. (You can fundraise for this fee -- most families do.) Team participation fees pay for the costs associated with registering the teams, buying equipment, and books. First $50 is due October 10th. The remaining $25 is due November 15th.
o We require that every student registration form have a $50 check attached as a non-refundable deposit. We will not cash the check until October 10th. If you have chosen to fundraise and have worked at least one shift prior to that date, we will return your check to you.
o We also require that every student registration form have a $25 check attached. This check will not be cashed until November 15th or later and is refundable if the student withdraws from the team before November 15th. If you have fundraised one more shift for this $25 payment, your check will be returned to you.
o To be clear about using fundraising to pay for team participation fees… Each fundraising shift is worth $50 towards your team participation fees. You may use any combination of fundraising and payment to take care of the $75 participation fee.

State Tournament Travel Expenses -- Only in EVEN years (2014, 2016, etc.)
Every other year, the state tournament is in Cheney, Washington at Eastern Washington University. The following expenses are required and must be paid by the student’s family. Families can fundraise to cover these expenses for reimbursement.
- Team Hotel – Friday night thru Sunday morning are eligible for fundraising.
- Gas Expense – Travel to, during, and home from the tournament is eligible for fundraising.

Team Shirts -- $12.50 each. Payment is due November 15th. All new students will be required to purchase a t-shirt.
Team Jackets -- $25?-$35? each. We do not get these every year.
Team Pizza Parties – $3 per person. At Regional & State Competitions
- Every fall we update our team shirt with dates, events, and sometimes names. Sometimes we change overall design.
- This is our team uniform and every student is expected to wear the team shirt at competitions. Many of our parents/mentors wear them as well.
- If your student has been on the team in the past and has a t-shirt with the current overall design and is in good condition, then a new shirt is not required.
Team Jackets -- $25?-$35? each. We do not get these every year.
- Our team jacket is a black hoodie type sweatshirt with or without a zipper. It is embroidered with our team name. Sometimes we can get them with the Science Olympiad logo and individual names embroidered as well.
- These are not required, but are very nice for our Northwest weather during competition season.
Team Pizza Parties – $3 per person. At Regional & State Competitions
- The team usually has a team pizza party at the regional and state competitions during the time between actual competition and the awards ceremony.
- Salad and at least 4 different varieties of pizza are offered.
- This party is for members of the team as well as their parents, siblings, and any other guests they may have.
- The cost for eating at the party is $3 per person. This covers the cost of the pizza, salad, and paper products.
